Healthy habits and wellness
Developing healthy habits and focusing on wellness after a traumatic brain injury (TBI) can be a crucial part of the recovery process. Here are some tips for promoting healthy habits and wellness after a TBI:
- Exercise regularly: Regular physical activity can help improve brain function, reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, and promote overall health. Talk with your doctor about the types of exercise that are safe and appropriate for you.
- Eat a healthy diet: A healthy diet that’s rich in fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins can provide essential nutrients for brain health and overall wellness. Limit your intake of processed foods, sugar, and saturated fat to maintain a balanced diet.
- Get adequate sleep: Getting enough sleep is crucial for brain health and overall wellness. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night, and establish a consistent sleep routine to promote good sleep habits.
- Reduce stress: Stress can have negative effects on brain health, so it’s important to find healthy ways to manage stress. This might include practicing mindfulness techniques, such as meditation and deep breathing, engaging in physical activity, or seeking support from friends and family.
- Avoid substance abuse: Substance abuse can have serious consequences for brain health and overall wellness. If you’re struggling with substance abuse, it’s important to seek professional help and work towards recovery.
- Stay socially active: Staying socially active can improve mood, reduce feelings of isolation, and promote overall health. Connect with friends and family, join a support group, or engage in social activities that you enjoy.
- Stay mentally active: Engaging in mentally stimulating activities, such as reading, writing, or solving puzzles, can help improve cognitive function and prevent decline after a TBI.
Remember, developing healthy habits and focusing on wellness after a TBI is an ongoing process. With the right support and resources, it’s possible to build a healthy and fulfilling life after a TBI.

Hi, I’m Alessio Scrocco and welcome!
I came up with the idea for TBI Forums back in 2019 but I never really had the confidence to do anything about it.
After 3 years of gaining confidence, working out and listening to over 50 audiobooks on about self-development, I started TBI Forums. My reason is because I want to help other survivors thrive, do better and get better faster, as I did.
I remember when I was depressed and in my bed, I would look up ways online that I could help myself recover. I did this for about 5 years. I would even ask strangers.
They would occasionally but there were things I couldn’t ask them because they would never understand.
Who is better to ask, than another TBI survivor!
